The English translation of ‘Bisarjan’ was done by Rabindranath himself. The background of this great lay gives an opportunity to the Director to explore the nature of terrorist activities in the modern world. Terrorism today is a universal problem. Religious superstition goes hand in hand with terrorism. Its roots have gone deep in to the social fabric of our motherland too. The conflict of the orthodox Karmavir Raghupati with Govindamanikya is the central theme of the play. The conflict ends with bloodshed. A new realization dawns with the self-sacrifice of Jaysinha. This realization leads to a concept of disarmament, love and a passion for new life.

The central character of the play is Basabdutta. She is a harlot and the attraction of the city. Men are dying to get her allowance. Basabdutta is a rich lady and very much proud about her beauty and glory. The cream of the city men are a great fan of her.

But on a magical evening the proud lady meets an ascetic; his name is Upagupta. For the first time in life she feels thirsty for that Upagupta. She wants to get that ascetic by different ways and applies different techniques. But Upagupta refuses Basabdutta. That type of experience is new for the lady. At last Upagupta tells her that, one day he will come to her, but not now, because this is not the right time.

The King refuses Upagupta from his state for the conflict of principles.

After a long year Upagupta is walking at the forest of Mathurapuri. At the time of night he discovers Basabdutta- homeless – lonely, - support less and ill.

Upagupta gives water on her lips and holds her hands and assures her that, now the time has come. From now, Basabdutta can have her dream man Upagupta.
